| I'm currently attending kwantlen studying biology. My career goal is (or was) to be a high school biology teacher, but lately i've been wondering if that is the best choice for me. I know i'd be great at it and it'd be a fulfilling career, but i just don't know if i want to go through with all the bullshit we learn at school. I'm currently taking Cell Biology, Ecology, Psych, and Chem and i can't stand this stuff. I'll have to be taking Organic Chem 1&2, Biochem, Genetics, and a bunch of other useless shit just so i can teach gr 11 and 12 biology. I just don't have the heart for it anymore nor the patience.
I've been considering dropping out of kwantlen/UBC and going to AI of Vancouver for their Culinary Arts program. I love working with kids and teaching them new things (i work as a rock climbing instructor and teach people of all ages), but i also love working in the kitchen and making people happy by satisfying their tastes and culinary desires.
The things that's keeping me from doing this is all the time, money and effort i've already put into studying sciences. I'm in my 3rd year now and have invested over $10000 in tuition, books, etc, but time is the most important. I'm only 20 right now, so i'm still really young. My ultimate goal (if i go through with culinary school) is to open up, design and own my very own restaurant. Am I going crazy?
If i do go through with this, my plan is to just finish off my semester at kwantlen, get a job in a restaurant doing anything, save up, and start the program next fall. Gindy, help me out with this one! |
